It’s past time we fully fund our public schools, invest fully in our teachers and their workplace conditions, and transform the educational experience of our students to ensure they receive a quality education regardless of where they grow up. Protecting public education is protecting our democracy. Luis will stand boldly in support of strong public neighborhood schools in every community and resist efforts to privatize education in Tennessee. Educating our children is the most important thing we can do for the health of our communities and our future.

Luis will advocate for Tennessee workers to ensure that all are treated fairly, paid living wages, and have equal protection under the law. He stands with working families and will fight for an economy that values people over profits. Such as grocery tax breaks, not $2B corporate tax breaks. Plain and simple: he will fight for a better-working, affordable economy through comprehensive efforts to address: smart growth management, workforce development, protections for working people, a living wage, and the power of organized labor. Luis’s campaign is funded by people, not corporate PAC money.

Affordable and accessible healthcare is a moral imperative. Tennesseeans must be able to go to the doctor without worrying about choosing medical bills over putting food on the table. It is time to build a healthcare system that centers people and guarantees quality care to every person living in Tennessee. Luis will never stand between a person and their doctor, will work to repeal Tennessee's restrictive abortion ban, and will fight for Medicaid expansion. Healthcare is a human right.

Like many Tennesseeans, Luis supports, and will fight for, common sense gun violence prevention policies. Guns are the leading cause of death among children and teens. This is an issue that can be solved with the right legislation that places the lives of our children, loved ones, and neighbors above the interests of gun lobbyists. Luis has, and will continue standing with students, parents, and educators to demand common-sense gun violence prevention policies.

Plain and simple: our diversity makes our communities and state stronger. Luis is a proud immigrant from Guadalajara, Mexico. Before becoming a US Citizen, unjust state laws tried to block his chance at a college education due to his immigration status, so he became a leader in the immigrant rights movement fighting to create welcoming communities where everyone can belong. Luis will continue his decades’ long fight in advocating tirelessly to defend and promote immigrant and refugee rights. Tennessee is home and we are here to stay.

Tennessee deserves a Representative who will fight for legislation that expands the rights of ALL Tennesseans. Regardless of who you love, how you worship, how much money you make, the color of your skin, your sexual identity/orientation, or your disability status – you should have equal opportunity to live, work, and play free of discrimination. While the Republican supermajority tries to further divide our communities with hateful legislation, Luis will fight to build a stronger, more inclusive Tennessee where all people can truly thrive.
